Queensland road users will be safer with OmniGrip Direct’s surfaces being the first Coloured Surface Treatment (CST) and High Friction Surface Treatment (HFST) to be approved in accordance with Australia’s toughest certification process, TIPES.
OmniGrip CST and OmniGrip HF are now Level 3 (unrestricted) TIPES certified for use in Queensland. Even better, OmniGrip CST uses coloured Australian recycled-glass to achieve this.
TIPES is a product certification process run by the Australian Road Research Board (ARRB). In this case it is assessing road safety surfaces for the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads, by considering product specifications, application processes and actual in-service performance, supported by test data and inspections.
Why? To ensure that manufacturer’s and contractor’s claims are supported with evidence, and the surfaces deliver the required levels of skid-resistance, texture and colour for their service life. It is a vital service when performance is necessary for safety, and value is required for road managers and the community.
The process required OmniGrip Direct to not only submit detailed information about OmniGrip CST and OmniGrip HF and its application processes, but also to provide independent test data of their “in-service” performance on heavily trafficked roads where they were at least 5-years old. The tests showed that the assessed surfaces were still compliant with specifications.

Being Level 3 TIPES Certified means OmniGrip CST and OmniGrip HF have no conditions on their application, unlike Level 1 and Level 2 products that may be certified in the future.
