LED Safety Tactiles
Ground-level guidance for safer crossings
Vivacity LED Safety Tactiles (TGSI) are in-ground illuminated blocks that sync with traffic signals to give pedestrians real-time cues at their feet. They help protect vulnerable road users, including those with vision impairments and those distracted by devices, while also enhancing crosswalk visibility for drivers up to 30 metres away.

Frequently
Asked Questions
I have questions about…
What’s the IP rating of the lights?
They are IP68 rated – fully dust-tight and protected against long-term immersion in water
Are LED Safety Tactiles compliant with Australian standards?
Yes. They are designed and installed in accordance with TGSI (Tactile Ground Surface Indicator) requirements and local road safety guidelines.
Is trenching required?
Yes, trenching and conduit are required for power and signal integration. Our team provides planning support and liaises closely with power and water companies to ensure compatibility with existing infrastructure.
Do they work for both new sites and retrofits?
Yes. For retrofits, existing tactile blocks are removed and replaced with LED units. For new sites, base plates and cabling are installed before attaching the LED top plates.
How are they powered?
They connect to a 24VDC supply, synchronised with existing pedestrian signal systems.
How visible are they?
They’re visible to drivers up to 30 metres at night, and highly effective for pedestrians in all light conditions.
Do the lights operate day and night?
Yes. They synchronise with traffic signals and remain highly visible in daylight, low light, and at night.
Are they load-rated for vehicles?
Yes. Each panel is tested up to 11 tonnes, making them suitable for roads, carparks, and high-traffic environments.
Is the light and timing frequency customisable?
Yes. LED Safety Tactiles are designed to synchronise with existing traffic signal systems. Timing, brightness, and colour can be configured to suit site requirements – for example, red/green at pedestrian intersections, or yellow at train and tram crossings.
Why are the LED Safety tactiles more visible?
Unlike overhead pedestrian signals, LED Safety Tactiles are installed directly at the crossing point. Their ground-level position ensures people with low vision and distracted pedestrians see the cues at their feet. They also enhance driver awareness by making crossings more visible.
How long do they last?
Each unit typically operates for 5+ years before requiring replacement.
Is maintenance complicated?
No. The modular design allows quick replacement of individual panels without rewiring.
What happens if one unit fails? Can the TGSI panels be replaced individually?
Yes, the system is modular, so an individual panel can be replaced without impacting surrounding lights or rewiring.
