A worn painted bikeway at Waterline Park was upgraded using targeted Long-Life Pothole Repairs and the application of OmniGrip Rubber Coat, transforming the path into a safer, high-performance cycling surface.
The 80 m² recycled-rubber treatment improves skid resistance, durability and visual consistency, providing a longer-lasting alternative to traditional painted bikeway surfaces.
The project represents the first known installation of a rubber coat bikeway surface in Queensland.

Waterline Park Bikeway, QLD

Sector
The existing surface lacked the high skid resistance required to support safe cycling conditions
The original painted bikeway surface showed tyre marking and scuffing. The underlying concrete had cracking and localised deterioration requiring repair before coating.
Sections of the bikeway showed visible wear and colour variation, impacting the overall presentation of the shared path
Cyclists rely on safe traction in all conditions, but traditional painted surfaces offer limited traction in wet conditions, increasing the potential for slips and loss of control
Targeted Pothole Repairs & Rubber Coat Installation
OmniGrip first addressed underlying surface defects, carrying out targeted repairs to cracked and deteriorated sections of the bikeway. Using its Long-Life Pothole Repair system, the team reinstated the integrity of the concrete substrate and prepared the path to receive the new surface treatment.
An 80 m² section of the Waterline Park bikeway was then resurfaced with OmniGrip Rubber Coat, using a 1.5 mm recycled Emerald Green rubber aggregate bound with a polyaspartic resin system. Delivered in partnership with The Star, the project is the first known installation of a rubber aggregate bikeway surface in Queensland, with works prioritised to address the most deteriorated section of the path while remaining within the available budget.
A Safer, High-Performance Cycling Surface
The Rubber Coat system integrates recycled rubber aggregate into the surface, creating a resilient finish engineered for shared paths and cycle corridors. Replacing the worn painted coating improved rider comfort, reduced scuffing and enhanced grip for cyclists, particularly in wet conditions.
The finished surface achieved a skid resistance value of 70 (tested by a NATA-accredited laboratory in accordance with MRTS110 Coloured Surface Treatments), delivering improved stability, safety and long-term durability while restoring the appearance and durability of the bikeway.
ACHIEVED
USED
“There was a crack on the bikeway near Waterline Park, so we engaged OmniGrip to repair the damaged section and applied Rubber Coat over the patch at the same time.
The finished result looks great and feels high-quality, we’re confident cyclists will appreciate the improvement. Unfortunately, due to budget limitations, we were only able to complete an 80 m² section this time.“
