As part of the Armadale Level Crossing Removal Project, LED Safety Tactiles are being introduced at the new Cannington Station to improve visibility and safety for pedestrians moving between the elevated train platform and the new ground-level bus interchange. The signalised pedestrian crossing beneath the structure experiences shadowing, making ground-level guidance essential for safe, accessible movement.

The tactiles complement traditional TGSI layouts to enhance accessibility and user confidence. By synchronising with existing pedestrian signals, LED Safety Tactiles provide clear, intuitive visual cues that support safer, more confident crossings for Perth commuters.

Ground-level LED guidance

LED Safety Tactiles were installed to provide bright, synchronised red and green illumination aligned with the existing signalised crossing. Working alongside traditional TGSI layouts, the tactiles improve contrast, delineation and directional clarity in an environment affected by structural shadowing.

Enhanced accessibility

Their foot-level positioning delivers intuitive guidance and strengthens accessibility for people with low vision, while offering a reliable visual prompt for device-distracted pedestrians.

Built for busy transport environments

Designed for the demands of a major transport interchange, the system withstands harsh weather, continuous use and operational pressures. Installation followed local safety and accessibility standards, forming a strong foundation for future evaluation and potential expansion across Perth’s network.

Improved visibility beneath the elevated structure
The LED tactiles provide strong, unmissable illumination that cuts through shadowed areas, making the crossing easier to identify and safer to use.
More confident commuter movement
Ground-level cues help guide the high volume of passengers moving between train and bus services, increasing awareness, encouraging safe crossing behaviour, and improving overall flow.
Strong support for accessibility needs
The tactiles enhance the TGSI system by offering a clear visual cue at foot level, supporting people with low vision and providing a secondary prompt for device-distracted pedestrians.
Reliable and standards-compliant
The installation meets local TGSI and safety requirements, ensuring dependable performance in a busy transport environment.
