Integrated Safety Upgrade

GPT Group’s Collins Street carpark ramps had become worn and slippery over time along with their walkways and bike lanes that posed slip and skid risks for drivers, staff and pedestrians.

Traditional coatings wore out quickly, causing repeated maintenance costs, tenant disruption, and safety concerns. OmniGrip provided a complete, integrated solution using its core surface technologies to restore grip, improve safety, and extend asset life with minimal operational downtime.

Client Challenges

30-year-old access ramps, walkways and bike lanes showed significant wear and loss of traction, creating slip and skid hazards for vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians.

Previous coating systems used by competitors offered only short lifespans, typically 6–18 months which required frequent and costly reapplications.

The result was escalating maintenance costs, downtime, and repeated disruption to tenants and visitors.

Installation needed to be fast and staged to maintain full access to the carpark, while delivering long term durability and compliance with safety standards.

Solution

Delivering the fix

OmniGrip delivered a fully integrated upgrade across the carpark that improved safety for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists, using complementary products designed for slip and skid resistance, long-term durability, and low-disruption installation. Together, these solutions provided a cohesive safety upgrade, extending asset lifespan while supporting GPT Group’s operational goals and sustainability initiatives.

Steep access ramps

Omnigrip HFST was installed to dramatically improve traction and reduce the risk of skidding, particularly in wet conditions. This surface treatment is independently tested for 15+ years durability and fully compliant with national and state road authority standards, including Level 3 TIPES Certification.

Bike lanes

Omnigrip CST was installed using the same 100% Australian crushed recycled glass to deliver a durable, coloured anti-slip surface designed for cyclists.

Walkways

OmniGrip Resurface was installed and is an anti-slip coloured surface made from 100% Australian crushed recycled glass avoiding new aggregate production reducing carbon. Designed to enhance visibility while maintaining grip and colour for 10+ years (CSIRO, ARRB tested).

Colour matching

On walkways or ramps that aren’t steep, Omnigrip Resurface was installed providing slip and skid resistance while achieving a cohesive aesthetic across the carpark.

Operational continuity

All works were staged to maintain full access to the carpark, with installations undertaken outside trading hours and surfaces trafficable within hours, ensuring minimal disruption to tenants and visitors.
