OmniGrip Direct is delivering pop-up bicycle lane projects for Victoria’s Department of Transport.  OmniGrip Direct is close to finishing its fourth pop-up bike lane package, and second as lead contractor, in the City of Port Phillip.

The first two, Heidelberg Road and Footscray packages, saw OmniGrip Direct deliver only its 20-year old surfacing system that uses coloured Australian recycled-glass.

The Department then selected OmniGrip Direct to lead the Moonee Ponds and Port Phillip packages, delivering pop-up bike lanes and supporting civil infrastructure on local and main roads.

OmniGrip Direct’s CEO, Darren Scerri, said, “Pop-up bicycle lanes are improving safety for riders across inner and middle Melbourne. They’re providing a way for people to try riding and build confidence, with reduced risk. OmniGrip Direct is pleased that our Australian recycled-glass OmniGrip CST surfaces were selected to provide the safety surfaces in the pop-up lanes.

OmniGrip CST is fully-compliant with DOT Standard Section 431 for Coloured Surface Treatments and is the only TIPES Certified coloured surface treatment in Australia. It has been developed and used for more than 10 years in some of Victoria’s largest Councils, including the cities of Melbourne and Geelong.  It is also used by the Victorian Department of Transport in its bus lanes and on bike lanes on arterial roads.  The aggregate in OmniGrip CST is inert Australian recycled-glass; there’s no thin plastic coats that quickly wear away, synthetic aggregates or imported glass.”

In the Moonee Pond and Port Phillip packages OmniGrip Direct is providing linemarking, signs and other traffic control devices and related civil works in addition to the coloured safety surface treatments. The contracts include sweeping to remove loose aggregate at timeframes specified by the Department, and maintenance of the works for the Defect Liability Period.

OmniGrip Direct Pty Ltd is Australia’s leading provider of resin-bound Australian recycled-glass surfaces for safety on roads, paths and in buildings. It’s civil works operations, OmniCivil, installs linemarking, traffic management, road maintenance and technology. OmniGrip Direct and OmniCivil are part of the SmarterLite Group.
